Research and critical writing within Emma’s practice is an essential motivational force in her development, driving both her thinking and practical investigation forwards. Fundamental to this is a high level engagement with the work of her contemporaries, and this has resulted in the writing of freelance critiques. In addition to this, Emma is developing various papers relating to the act of drawing, creative distancing, and series as process.

As a practitioner, theorist and lecturer, she will contribute to a practice based drawing symposium, to be held at Winchester School of Art in 2008.
